Hannah Joy Nelson

MECHANICAL ENGINEER

an image of Hannah Joy Nelson smiling at the camera

Hannah Joy Nelson is a Mechanical Engineer at 5BY5 Engineers, where she contributes to both the design and commissioning teams.

She supports the design team in producing mechanical system drawings and assists the commissioning team by testing and evaluating existing systems in the field. Her work has supported impactful projects across the region, including Saint Luke’s East Hospital, the City of Merriam, Basin Pioneer, Harrison County Community Hospital, and Children’s Mercy Hospital.

A graduate of Benedictine College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics, Hannah brings a blend of technical precision and creativity to every project she touches.

Hannah was drawn to engineering for its blend of logic and creativity—likening the profession to building with Legos, just on a much larger scale. She thrives on the ever-evolving nature of engineering, appreciating that there is always something new to learn and apply.

She finds purpose in contributing to projects that serve the community, such as hospitals and civic buildings, and values the opportunity to give back through her technical skills. What she enjoys most about working at 5BY5 is the supportive team environment and the mission-driven nature of the work.

Outside of the office, Hannah enjoys playing guitar and diving into new hobbies with the same curiosity she brings to engineering.
