Children’s Mercy Hospital In-Patient Tower Backup AHU

Children’s Mercy Hospital sought increased reliability, easier maintenance, and redundancy in the air distribution system serving their inpatient tower.

Smart Energy Efficiency was incorporated into the project which provided cost savings. A different system type than what LMH has at the main campus was designed and constructed. 

5BY5 Engineers provided commissioning services and training services preparing facility staff for the operation of the system. The existing Air Handling Equipment in this tower was old and required frequent maintenance. Existing equipment and services were located in basement mechanical rooms and routed through existing chases that hadn’t been modified in 30 years.

5BY5 Engineers partnered with Children’s Mercy Hospital and US Engineering to provide a new air handling unit that could back up 6 existing air handling units located in the basement and penthouse of the patient tower. 5BY5 Engineers acted as the engineer of record, owner representative, and commissioning agent for the new system(s).
